Here, the bluish roofs of fabulous houses merge with the silent turquoise sea and deep blue sky. Here boundaries and horizons are erased, and unions between lovers are fastened both on earth and in heaven.

Preparing for an Orthodox wedding

If a decision is made to hold an Orthodox wedding in Santorini, the newlyweds must prepare in advance and go through the following steps:

  1. Select date and time. We recommend paying attention to September. This time in Greece is considered the velvet season, when the exhausting summer heat is no longer there, but the air and the sea remain warm enough.
  2. Decide on a temple or church.
  3. Prepare a package of documents, submit a request to the Greek Consulate and obtain permission for the wedding from the Metropolis of Athens.
  4. Decide on the format of the Orthodox wedding, book the appropriate hotel and venue for the wedding ceremony.

What is an Orthodox wedding ceremony?

In Greece, an Orthodox wedding is equivalent to civil registration. The newlyweds must arrive on the island two days before the ceremony. During this time, you will need to prepare and submit documents, meet with the priest, a representative of the Greek Orthodox Church.

The Orthodox wedding ceremony lasts 45-60 minutes. In the church, in the presence of at least one witness, the priest reads prayers, uniting the hearts of lovers.

After the ceremony, a married couple can go on a photo shoot through the most fabulous venues.
